Privacy Policy

1. Purpose of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how SwaMiti may collect, use, store and protect personal information when people visit or interact with swamiti.com.

SwaMiti is an independent technical knowledge project operated by an individual based in India. It currently provides Articles, Tools and Calculators. Public user registration and Community features are not currently live; if introduced later, this Policy will be updated as appropriate before or when those features begin processing personal information.

This Policy is intended to be read together with the Terms of Use, Technical Disclaimer, and Cookie Policy.

2. Our approach to privacy

SwaMiti aims to collect only the personal information reasonably necessary to operate, secure and improve the site.

SwaMiti does not intend to collect personal information merely because a visitor reads an Article or uses a public Calculator, except for technical information generated by normal website operation, consent management, or optional services expressly described in this Policy.

SwaMiti does not sell personal information.

3. Information you provide directly

Depending on the features available, you may provide information such as:

  • your email address;
  • display name or username;
  • account credentials;
  • information included in messages sent through Contact or support channels;
  • Community posts, comments, questions or replies;
  • information submitted when reporting content, privacy concerns or account issues;
  • preferences voluntarily saved to an account; and
  • other information you choose to provide.

SwaMiti does not intentionally request information that is unnecessary for the purpose for which it is collected.

4. Information collected automatically by hosting and site operation

When you visit SwaMiti, the website, hosting infrastructure, caching or security systems may automatically process technical information such as:

  • IP address;
  • browser and device type;
  • operating system;
  • pages requested;
  • date and time of requests;
  • referring page or source;
  • technical error information; and
  • security and access logs.

This information may be necessary to operate, secure, troubleshoot and maintain the website.

SwaMiti currently uses Hostinger for website hosting and related infrastructure.

Hostinger may retain server logs and backups according to the hosting service and configuration in use. SwaMiti does not state a fixed Hostinger retention period here because those periods may depend on the hosting plan and provider configuration.

5. Cookies, local storage and session storage

SwaMiti uses cookies and browser storage for technical, consent-management, preference and, where enabled with permission, analytics purposes.

Current observed storage includes:

  • the CookieYes consent cookie used to remember privacy choices;
  • WP Consent API consent-state cookies (wp_consent_*) used by compatible WordPress plugins to communicate consent state;
  • WordPress technical session storage such as wpEmojiSettingsSupports; and
  • the Unit Converter local-storage preference key swamiti.uc.visible-groups.v1, which remembers which unit groups a visitor chooses to display.

The Unit Converter preference key stores interface preferences and is not intended to store calculation values.

Detailed information is provided in the separate Cookie Policy.

6. Calculator and local browser preferences

Some SwaMiti Calculators may offer optional preference storage.

For example, the Unit Converter may remember which unit groups a visitor has chosen to display.

The current preference key is:

swamiti.uc.visible-groups.v1

This preference is stored in the visitor’s browser using local storage.

SwaMiti treats this as optional Functional / Preferences storage. The converter itself is intended to continue working without persistent preference storage.

Where Functional / Preferences consent has not been granted, selections are not intended to be persistently stored across visits. If such consent is later withdrawn, the saved preference is intended to be removed. SwaMiti verifies this behavior when the Unit Converter or consent integration is materially updated.

If SwaMiti later introduces account-based synchronization of preferences, that processing will be described before it is enabled.

7. Consent management

SwaMiti uses CookieYes to present privacy choices and manage cookie consent, together with the WP Consent API to communicate consent states between compatible WordPress plugins.

Where CookieYes consent logging is enabled, CookieYes may process consent-record information such as:

  • the consented domain;
  • consent date and time;
  • a consent identifier;
  • general location or jurisdiction;
  • a pseudonymized or partially masked IP address;
  • overall consent status; and
  • category-level consent choices.

This information is used for consent-management and proof-of-consent purposes.

The CookieYes consent cookie is treated as necessary because the site needs to remember the visitor’s privacy choices.

8. Accounts

If account registration is introduced, SwaMiti may collect information necessary to:

  • create and maintain an account;
  • verify an email address;
  • authenticate login;
  • recover account access;
  • save preferences;
  • provide bookmarks or saved calculations;
  • enable Community participation; and
  • manage account security.

Public display names may differ from a user’s legal name.

SwaMiti does not presently intend to require ordinary users to publicly disclose their legal identity.

9. Age requirement

SwaMiti account registration is intended only for persons 18 years of age or older.

SwaMiti does not intend to knowingly create registered accounts for persons under 18.

Public Articles and resources may nevertheless be accessible without registration unless access is specifically restricted.

If SwaMiti becomes aware that personal information has been submitted by a person under 18 in circumstances where it should not have been collected, SwaMiti will review the circumstances and take appropriate action.

10. Community content

If Community functionality is enabled, content posted publicly may be visible to other users and potentially to search engines.

Users should therefore avoid posting:

  • private personal information;
  • confidential employer or customer information;
  • proprietary project information;
  • personal information relating to another person without appropriate authority; and
  • information they do not wish to become public.

Community content and account information are treated separately. For example, an email address used for registration is not intended to become publicly visible merely because a user participates in Community discussions.

11. Contact and correspondence

When you contact SwaMiti by email or another contact method, SwaMiti may retain the correspondence and associated contact information as reasonably necessary to:

  • respond to the enquiry;
  • investigate technical issues;
  • process privacy requests;
  • respond to content-removal or rights complaints; and
  • maintain appropriate records.

General enquiries: me@swamiti.com

Privacy, account, rights and content concerns: office@swamiti.com

These email addresses are monitored by the individual operating SwaMiti.

12. How information may be used

Personal information may be processed for purposes including:

  • operating and maintaining SwaMiti;
  • providing requested functionality;
  • creating and securing user accounts;
  • responding to enquiries;
  • providing Community functionality;
  • remembering permitted user preferences;
  • recording and respecting consent choices;
  • investigating errors or abuse;
  • protecting the security of the site and its users;
  • complying with applicable legal obligations;
  • responding to valid rights or content complaints; and
  • understanding site usage and improving Articles, Tools and Calculators where optional analytics has been permitted.

SwaMiti does not intend to repurpose personal information for unrelated uses without appropriate notice or another lawful basis.

13. Search Console and analytics

Google Search Console

SwaMiti may use Google Search Console to understand how the site appears in Google Search, including search impressions, clicks, indexing and technical search-performance information.

SwaMiti intends to verify Search Console using domain/DNS ownership rather than relying on a visitor analytics tag.

Google Analytics 4

SwaMiti has created a Google Analytics 4 property for swamiti.com. At the time of this Policy update, GA4 tracking is intended to remain inactive until the relevant policies and consent controls are in place.

When activated, SwaMiti intends to use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) through Google Site Kit for WordPress to understand matters such as:

  • visitor and session counts;
  • traffic sources;
  • commonly visited pages;
  • device/browser categories;
  • general engagement with Articles, Tools and Calculators;
  • page views;
  • scrolling;
  • outbound-link interactions; and
  • file downloads where enabled.

GA4 is intended to operate only where the visitor’s Analytics choice permits it.

SwaMiti does not intend to use Google Ads, advertising personalization, remarketing, Google Signals, or user-provided-data collection at launch.

Microsoft Clarity

Microsoft Clarity is not intended to be enabled at launch.

If SwaMiti later decides to enable Clarity or another behavioural/session-recording service, the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy will be updated before or at the time it is activated, and appropriate consent controls will be applied.

14. Cookies and similar technologies

SwaMiti’s use of cookies, local storage and session storage is described in the separate Cookie Policy.

Visitors can use the consent controls to:

  • accept optional Analytics storage;
  • reject optional storage;
  • manage available Functional / Preferences choices; and
  • revisit or withdraw their choices later through Cookie Settings.

Necessary technologies used to operate the site and remember consent choices may remain active where appropriate.

15. Service providers

SwaMiti may rely on service providers to operate parts of the website.

The current or planned service stack includes:

  • Hostinger — website hosting, infrastructure and related operational services;
  • CookieYes — consent banner and consent-record management;
  • WP Consent API — WordPress consent-state communication between compatible plugins;
  • Google Search Console — search indexing/performance information;
  • Google Site Kit — WordPress integration for selected Google services;
  • Google Analytics 4 — optional site analytics after consent.

Other WordPress plugins may provide local site functionality. SwaMiti reviews plugins that transmit personal information to external services before relying on them for public operation.

16. Sharing of personal information

SwaMiti does not intend to disclose personal information to unrelated third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Information may nevertheless be disclosed where reasonably necessary:

  • to service providers supporting SwaMiti;
  • with the user’s direction or consent;
  • to investigate security incidents or misuse;
  • to protect legitimate rights or site operation; or
  • to comply with applicable law, court orders or valid legal processes.

17. International processing

Some hosting, consent-management, analytics, email or technology service providers may process information using infrastructure located outside India.

SwaMiti reviews the provider arrangements it uses and intends to handle cross-border processing consistently with applicable Indian law and applicable provider commitments. This section may be updated if providers, processing locations or legal requirements change.

18. Data retention

SwaMiti retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, operational and security needs, dispute handling, record-keeping, or applicable legal obligations.

Retention may differ by type of information. In particular:

  • correspondence sent to me@swamiti.com or office@swamiti.com may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to handle the enquiry, complaint, rights request, or legal / administrative purpose, and thereafter only where reasonably necessary for records, security, dispute resolution or legal obligations;
  • server and access logs may be retained according to the Hostinger service and operational configuration in use;
  • backups may retain information until the applicable Hostinger backup expires or is replaced under the configured service;
  • where CookieYes consent logging is enabled, consent records may be retained according to the CookieYes plan and settings in use;
  • when GA4 is enabled, SwaMiti has selected 14 months for GA4 event-level data retention, subject to Google’s service behavior and settings;
  • if accounts are introduced, account information may remain while an account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter where necessary; and
  • if Community is introduced, public Community posts may remain available unless removed in accordance with site rules, rights requests or applicable law.

Deleting information from the live site may not result in immediate removal from temporary backups or security records that expire under their normal retention cycle.

19. Security

SwaMiti uses reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the site and information processed.

Measures may include:

  • HTTPS;
  • secure account authentication;
  • controlled administrative access;
  • software updates;
  • backups;
  • security monitoring;
  • access restrictions; and
  • reputable hosting and service providers.

No online system can guarantee absolute security.

20. Personal-data breaches

If SwaMiti becomes aware of a personal-data breach, it will investigate the incident and take reasonable measures to limit harm and secure affected systems.

Where applicable law requires notification to affected individuals or a regulatory authority, SwaMiti will follow those requirements.

The detailed incident-response process remains subject to applicable Indian privacy requirements in force at the time of an incident.

21. Your choices and requests

Subject to applicable law and the functionality available, users may contact SwaMiti regarding matters such as:

  • accessing information about their account;
  • correcting inaccurate account information;
  • requesting deletion of account information;
  • withdrawing consent where processing depends on consent;
  • raising a privacy grievance;
  • closing an account; and
  • questioning how personal information is used.

Requests may be sent to:

office@swamiti.com

22. Deletion requests

Where technically and legally appropriate, SwaMiti may delete personal information when:

  • it is no longer required for its stated purpose;
  • a valid deletion request applies; or
  • an account is closed and retention is no longer necessary.

Deletion from the live system may not result in immediate removal from temporary backups or security archives.

Public Community contributions may require separate handling because removal of an account and removal of publicly posted content are not necessarily the same operation.

SwaMiti will explain this more specifically before or when Community functionality is launched.

23. Privacy grievances and contact

Questions or concerns about personal information may be directed to:

Privacy and site administration: office@swamiti.com

This address is monitored by the individual operating SwaMiti.

If accounts or Community functions are enabled, SwaMiti may publish additional grievance-contact information or other formal disclosures where required by applicable law.

24. Third-party websites

SwaMiti may link to third-party websites, publications, standards bodies, software or other services.

This Privacy Policy does not govern third-party sites.

Visitors are encouraged to review the privacy practices of those services separately.

25. Changes to this Privacy Policy

SwaMiti may update this Privacy Policy as:

  • site features change;
  • new service providers are introduced;
  • analytics or Community functions are enabled; or
  • legal requirements change.

The current version and last-updated date are made available on this page.

Where a material change affects registered users or consent-based processing, SwaMiti will provide appropriate notice where required or reasonably appropriate.
